Spiritual Care Training

This course prepares Spiritual Care Volunteers to provide emotional and spiritual support for people who have been affected by a personal or community trauma or disaster in an American Red Cross response environment.

Fundamentals of Chapter Disaster Operations Management (FCDOM)

Prepares Red Cross employees and leadership volunteers to manage a small disaster relief operation, which is chapter managed and accounted, and at least partially funded by the Disaster Relief Fund.

Prerequisites:

•  Client Casework: Providing Emergency Assistance

•  Community Services Overview or Mass Care Overview

  • Fundamentals of Disaster Assessment (online component)

•  Financial and Statistical Information Management or Client Assistance Cards: Financial and Statistical Information Management Workers

  • Collaborating to Ensure Effective Service Delivery
  • Sufficient casework knowledge and experience to participate at an intermediate level

All perspective participants must complete a 5898H application and turn it in by Monday, January 19, 2009 at 10AM in order to be considered for this training.

Fulfilling Our Mission: Translating Compassion into Community Action

This new course introduces volunteers to the role of the Red Cross in the community's actions in preparing for, responding to and recovering from disaster.   Participants will learn how to assess their skills and abilities to strengthen the capacity of their community and the Red Cross to better serve the victims of disaster.

Fundamentals of Disaster Assessment

This basic level disaster course introduces the critical role of disaster assessment, explores related preparedness tasks, and teaches participants how to collect and communicate disaster assessment information. Volunteers will also become familiar with how disaster assessment information supports management and service delivery functions.

This course includes both the online and instructor-led portions of the Disaster Assessment training.

Logistics: An Overview

The purpose of the Logistics Overview training is to provide information about the activities and processes of the logistics function in support of the American Red Cross disaster relief operation.   Participants will learn the skills, abilities, and knowledge needed by logistics workers and how they can get started in their local chapter.

Shelter Operations

Shelter Operations prepares Red Cross responders to effectively and sensitively manage shelters as a team and to meet the needs of people displaced as a result of a disaster. Required for all ES responders.

Shelter Simulation

Shelter Simulation provides participants an opportunity to practice the knowledge and skills needed to run a successful shelter operation.   Activities include demonstrating shelter opening, operating and closing procedures, identifying and using a variety of available resources, and addressing and managing common shelter problems effectively.

Principles of Services to Armed Forces Casework

The purpose of Principles of SAF Casework is to provide caseworkers with an in-depth examination of Red Cross policies and apply them to SAF service delivery through a variety of experiential SAF-specific situations.   Participants will build a comprehensive toolkit they can take back to their workplace.

Emergency Services Volunteer Orientation/Simulation

Volunteers who have joined the SEPA Chapter in the past year should attend this introduction to Emergency Services. New volunteers will receive an overview of SEPA Chapter's history, staff and volunteer structure and will learn how to join a Disaster Action Team (DAT). Most importantly, volunteers will have the opportunity to simulate a disaster response. Required for all ES responders.

Health Services Response Workshop

Prepares licensed or certified health professionals to either to either work in their local chapter jurisdiction or be deployed to a Red Cross disaster relief operation and function as health professionals within the Health Services Protocols.

Psychological First Aid

The course provides a framework for understanding the factors that affect stress responses in disaster relief workers and the clients they serve. In addition, it provides practical suggestions about what you can say and do as you practice the principles of Psychological First Aid. The purpose of this course is to prepare all American Red Cross workers to provide basic care, comfort and support to people who are experiencing disaster-related stress.

The purpose of this course is to prepare supervisors to lead a team of disaster workers to deliver high quality client service and to create a climate that promotes worker satisfaction.

  • Applicants should have the training and experience equivalent to a Service Associate in an activity in which she or he expects to become a supervisor.

International Humanitarian Law

Introduction to International Humanitarian Law (IHL) is intended to raise awareness among Red Cross representatives and general audiences about the Geneva Conventions, the basic rules of international humanitarian law, and the role of the Red Cross during armed conflict to implement IHL.

Be Red Cross Ready Train-the-Trainer Workshop

Be Red Cross Ready Train-the-Trainer Workshop is the first step for interested volunteers who'd like to represent the Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Red Cross by presenting the Disaster Preparedness presentation to the public.   The train the trainer course focuses on course content and effective presentation skills.
